We encounter screen-printed products every day - branding on a lighter, merchandising products or even sun protection on a truck windscreen. Coated and exposed screens allow for precision and high quantities. In the artistic workshop, we get the precision - the line-sharp application of paint instead of a brush texture; but for the ease and flexibility, we create and use stencils instead of coating the screens. The reduction required for the stencils creates a special style. With this technique, no intermediate tones are possible, thus creating a special clarity. Following the designs, we decide on the stencil style and look for openings and ridges. Inverted cutting trains the fingers and the head equally. So, as with most printing, the preliminary work is the longer and more creative process, you work something into the blue. The actual print then is always a bit magical and celebratory. And since there is always something striking inherent in a print, it is therefore also well suited for statements. Sophie Taeuber-Arp's artistic aspirations are an ideal source of inspiration, her principles and her versatility will accompany our workshop.
