Workshop – registration necessary!

28 Apr 2024

Attention: Please ask Ms. von Ohnesorge whether participation in English is possible.

We work directly with pure natural pigments. Artists have been painting with red chalk, green earth or ochre since antiquity.

In the tapestries and preparatory drawings by Kiki Smith, we discover interwoven earth colours, especially in the background. A few sketches are made in the exhibition and form the basis and inspiration for our painting with the pigments, and it is fascinating to see how the earth colours - applied directly to the paper - can be rubbed into smooth or grainy strokes, spread like a powdery touch or condensed into strong, opaque surfaces. Earth pigments are used, in pieces, grated, solid and loose pastel chalks, binders - finely dosed - and water. A variety of techniques are possible. We let the pigments work. And in doing so, we learn how sometimes random effects are created - and how we can incorporate and utilise this process in our illustration. The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced students.
