On the work

o. T., 1999
Sculpture in polyester
91 x 322 x 174 cm

In the age of digital and virtual reality, Thomas Rentmeister focuses in a remarkably sensuous way on the plastic three-dimensional form.
His works can be understood as a sculptural answer to a de-materialised concept of the representation of the world and of pictures. Rentmeister's amorphous polyester sculptures appear as a moment of a movement sequence extended into timelessness. They can be understood as a late consequence of the abstraction of natural forms. The immaculately polished surfaces may appear to some viewers like coloured air.

Thomas Rentmeister was born in 1964 in Reken/Westphalia, he lives and works in Berlin.
