Reality is always in the eye of the beholder. What was considered true in the Middle Ages is unreal for many today. Pastor Daniel Post and Dr. Susanne Blöcker set out in search of traces of the spiritual realities of days gone by. In the Middle Ages, for example, heaven and hell were considered very real. The altars show them in the here and now – in a contemporary landscape with a corresponding city backdrop. Meanwhile, Fra Angelico's luminous gold backgrounds transport us to the supernatural realities of God and the angels.
