15:00 – 16:30 | Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck
Guided Tour – Tickets available
The dialogue tour follows in the footsteps of religious Romanticism. The epoch is characterised by a deep individual piety that decisively shaped both the literature and the visual arts of its time. It is free of dogma and closely linked to the Romantic longing for nature. A central figure is the Protestant theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834), who was a friend of the Romantics Novalis and Friedrich Schlegel. According to Schleiermacher, if you want to find your way back to nature, you can only do so through feeling, not through logical reasoning. This is the only way to become part of a cosmic nature understood by the Romantics as mythical and divine. ‘It is not those who believe in a holy scripture who have religion, but those who do not need one.’ (F. Schleiermacher).
