17:00 | Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck
Special Event – in English
Under the annual theme ‘Tricksters, Unite!’, artists are currently visiting Balmoral Castle in Bad Ems as part of the international scholarship programme of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In an increasingly radicalised world of certainties, the figure of the trickster and his strategies of ambiguity offer a counterweight. The figure invites us to play with perceptions, to circumvent rules and to collide certainties in a well-measured way. In a joint tour of the exhibition rooms of the Arp Museum, the director of the Artist Residency, Katharina Fink, and the director of the Arp Museum, Dr Julia Wallner, will talk about the idea of the trickster. In a historical dimension, the theme can be traced back to Dada and Romanticism. Working in community, humorously or playfully overcoming orders, and an experimental search for new possibilities and freedoms of thought become themes in art that are still relevant today.
Following the tour, two of the scholarship holders will present their work, and the discussion will continue over a glass of wine on the terrace of the Arp Lab.
The discussion will be held in English.
Costs: free of charge, plus museum admission fee
