In the original version for septet, Richard Strauss' “Metamorphoses” are an excellent match for Brahms' second string sextet: two symphonic masterpieces in a chamber concert. Mihaela Martin and Frans Helmerson transform the mournful tones that the old Strauss sent after the Second World War into a feast of richly singing strings.
