Workshop – registration necessary!
Attention: Please ask Ms. von Ohnesorge whether participation in English is possible.
In this workshop, we will work directly with pure pigments. Since ancient times, artists have painted with red chalk, green earth, or ochre.
At the beginning of the workshop, we will visit the exhibition Landscapes of the Soul. James Ensor – Claude Monet – Léon Spilliaert and focus our attention on the colouring of the works: the luminosity of the colours as an expression of light. Shimmering dots play with our perception. Colours with symbolic character indicate inwardness. The Fauves (the Wild Ones) painted with ‘laughing colours’. In the exhibition, sketches are made which serve as a basis and inspiration for painting with pigments in the further course of the workshop.
The fascinating thing about painting with pigments is how the pure colours – applied directly to the paper – can be rubbed into smooth or grainy strokes, spread like a powdery touch or condensed into strong, opaque areas. Pure pigments (in pieces or ground) and pastel chalks (solid and loose) are used, as well as binders and water. Everything is finely measured. This allows many different techniques to be implemented. We let the precious pigments work their magic and learn how random effects can arise – and how we can incorporate and use this process in our work. The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced students
