Jan Vogler, cello and conductor
Villa Musica String Ensemble
Jan Vogler, the world-renowned cellist from Dresden, performs works by Haydn and Brahms. Brahms’s magnificent Second String Quintet opens with a jubilant cello theme, as if tailor-made for the globally acclaimed cellist. Together with young string virtuosos from Villa Musica, he paints a portrait of the late Brahms, moving between Viennese waltzes and csárdás, ecstasy and melancholy. In Haydn’s cheerful Opus 33 and Phil Glass’s “minimal music,” tradition and the present come together.
