Workshop – registration necessary
This course introduces participants to the basics of iconography using selected works from the current exhibition Really. Art and Reality 1400–1900. In an introductory theoretical section, participants will first explore the approaches of art historians Aby Warburg (1886–1929) and Erwin Panofsky (1892–1968), become acquainted with key reference works such as the multi-volume *Lexikon der christlichen Ikonographie* and others, and then practise systematically describing and analysing original works from the Rau Collection. Over the course of several sessions, they will gain a comprehensive insight into the world of Christian and secular pictorial themes and acquire the necessary skills to quickly identify and contextualise pre-modern artworks.
Cost: 10 € per person plus museum admission (students are admitted free of charge)
