A few years ago, »Building As Art« was the title of a major exhibition of Richard Meier's work at the Arp Museum. But is building as art also suitable for museum architecture, which is essentially supposed to serve art?
We will ask about the conditions for successful art viewing and walk through the museum complex in Rolandseck. We will describe spatial (reciprocal) effects, observe changes in our own perception and have to clarify to what extent Meier's architectural designs influence our view of the art presented.
In this respect, Richard Meier refers to his great role model Le Corbusier, who repeatedly demanded that a living architecture should take into account the human ability to perceive.
For Meier, this implies that »the first intention of our museum architecture is to promote the discovery of aesthetic and cultural values [...] through the spatial experience of the museum itself.« This aspiration must be pursued on site.

Once again, the following look forward to a visionary contemplation of art
