Concert – Chamber music theatre with Udo Samel and Villa Musica scholarship holders

04 Sep 2021

When the renowned German actor Udo Samel played the traumatised Jewish violinist in Through Roses in Berlin in 2015, Wolfgang Behrens wrote: "He escaped the horrors of the camps and relives his traumatic experiences over and over again, triggered by certain key stimuli: individual words or music. Neikrug quotes extensively, in varying degrees of distortion, music from the German tradition, which was also the music of the perpetrators: from the Kaiserquartett to Tristan und Isolde and Bach." Villa Musica scholarship holders are working with Samel on this great piece of modern music theatre created by a former Rolandseck scholarship holder: Marc Neikrug, world-renowned as the piano partner of Pinchas Zukerman, now director of his own chamber music festival in Santa Fe.
