"The leaf turns into a torso. The torso transforms into a vase." Hans Arp

"The material makes something and I make something, and together we arrive at the form." Christiane Löhr

We follow with our drawing: the transformation of forms in Hans Arp's sculptures and the transformation in the tender growth in Christiane Löhr's sculptures.

Since red chalk and charcoal allow free-swinging lines to be supple and flowing - sometimes broad, sometimes delicate - they are ideal for tracing Arp's swelling curves and gliding forms, - or for experiencing the filigree movement in Löhr's finest webs or condensing structures through painting. We try out the manifold possibilities of red chalk and charcoal, whereby already the posture in the hand, the decision to use the edge or broadside, determines the result - consciously or by chance - and varies extremely.

As we walk around the sculptures, we recognise and paint the movement: convex or concave, in the transformation, in the change in the small as well as in the large. In this way we loosen our hand, the drawing curves become softer. We detach individual areas and reassemble them, and (incidentally) understand more and more how Arp's and Löhr's works are so lively and exciting. The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced
