About the work

Eberhard Bosslet’s Rain Collector stands on the Oberwinter headland. About 12 metres high and made of wood and steel, the construction can be viewed from all sides. Based on a formwork system used in concrete high-rise construction, and with a steel funnel attached to it, his structure has become Remagen’s Rain Collector. The funnel’s downpipe is located in the centre of the tower structure, where it ends three metres short of the ground. When it rains, the downpipe becomes, as Bosselet says, “a public shower”, so to speak.
Like any “focal point” in Baroque garden architecture, the Rain Collector attracts attention from all sides. Whether seen from the road or the other river bank far away, this technoid sculpture catches the eye and is reminiscent of the intentional lines of sight in Baroque landscape gardens.
