Regenfänger

2001, Eberhard Bosslet
Oberwinter – Marina

Eberhard Bosslet has placed a twelve-metre-high sculpture – the funnel-shaped Regenfänger (»Raincatcher«) – on the promontory in Oberwinter. The technoid-like tower consists of a geometric wood and steel construction which affords glimpses of the inside from all sides. It is an eye-catching structure and dominates the surrounding countryside.

About the work

Like a point de vue (focal point) in Baroque garden architecture, Bosslet's Regenfänger attracts attention from all sides: from the street and also from a distance, from the faraway opposite river bank. The artist has thereby created perspectives as in a landscape painting.

The construction of the tower is a special feature: the structure of the sculpture derives from a formwork system used in concrete engineering. Thanks to the steel funnel which has been placed on top, the tower has also become a »raincatcher« for Remagen.

The downpipe of the funnel is in the centre of the tower structure. It ends at a height of three metres and – as Bosslet observes – when it is raining it becomes a »public shower«.
